Should be able to

  • create 2D nature scene
  • use shading / value to create a 3D effect.
  • use overlapping shapes and/or basic perspective in a drawing  
  • use basic shading and value learn how to do wet-on-wet painting with watercolors
  • use glazes and/or paint on clay
  • use tints and shades in painting
  • create a silhouette
  • know what a paint palette is and how to use one
  • use a variety of brush strokes  
  • blend gradually from one color to another

  • Students will zoom in on an object and use run-off.

  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of basic ceramics terminology.

  • Students will brainstorm to generate ideas for their artwork.

Craftsmanship and Production

  • Students will color in areas smoothly.
  • Students will paint evenly.
  • Students will build 3D forms in clay.
  • Students will roll clay slabs with even thickness.
  • Students will create light medium and dark values.
  • Students will create the illusion of 3D form on a 2D surface.
  • Students will paint and color inside of the lines most of the time.
  • Students will appreciate the value of patience, persistence, and pride in the creative experience.

 Visual Thinking, Reflection, and Art Criticism

  • Students will explain the choices they’ve made in their artwork.
  • Students will discuss artwork and give a personal critique.
  • Students will use practice sketches to plan their artwork.
