Should be able to:

  • use complementary colors in artwork
  • use a ruler and measurement in a drawing.
  • create an optical illusion in a drawing
  • show depth by using one or more of the following: proportion, size, value, horizon line, (foreground, middle ground, background), overlap.
  • use color to create contrast.
  • use value to create depth use glazes on clay
  • create multi-media painting
  • create artwork using complementary colors
  • use paint on a three dimensional project
  • demonstrate a variety of painting techniques in a single painting  

Knowledge and Concepts

  • Students will identify and use the complementary colors.
  • Students will create three dimensional art work.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of clay and glazes.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of art from various time periods and cultures.
  • Students will identify and use horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines.

Expression, Creativity and Communication

  • Students will brainstorm to generate ideas for their artwork.
  • Students will develop ideas and images for their artwork based on memory, imagination, and experiences.
  • Students will convey personal interests through artwork.
  • Students will show personal expression in artwork.
  • Students will be able to discuss artwork and express their personal visual experience.

 Craftsmanship and Production

  • Students will fill most of the space in an artistic composition.
  • Students will use a ruler for accurate measurement.  
  • Students will effectively attach clay using the score and slip technique.
  • Students will create an effective three dimensional project.
  • Students will recognize when project objectives have been met.

Visual Thinking, Reflection, and Art Criticism

  • Students will participate in basic critiques.
  • Students will reflect on their creative process and express their opinions about their artwork.
  • Students will express their interests and life experiences in their artwork.  
  • Students will describe artwork using artist terminology.
  • Students will use practice sketches to plan their artwork.  
  • Students will be introduced to ideas and artwork from other cultures.
