Should be able to:

  • begin to create space in an
    artwork using space using foreground, middleground, and background
  • use pattern in an art work
  • use horizon/ground line in art work
  • create a drawing inspired by one or more of the following:
    elements from nature, art historical examples, and/or famous artists.
  • begin to show balance in a composition
  • use both observation and imagination to create a drawing.
  • use line to show movement in a picture.
  • begin to show depth in a picture by using size.
  • begin to use the color wheel use paint to mix secondary colors
    from primary colors
  • use watercolor to create a resist
  • learn how to blend colors together on the paper
  • use paint to create visual texture
  • use paint to fill the space with a solid color
  • learn how to correctly hold a paintbrush.

Standard Three: Craftsmanship and Production

  • Students will successfully use printmaking tools.
  • Students will color in one direction and fill in areas with solid color.
  • Students begin to apply paint in a smooth and even direction.
  • Students will apply glue using control without wasting.
  • Students will understand the expectations of “finished” vs. “done”.

Visual Thinking, Reflection, and Art Criticism

  • Students will identify basic art elements in works of art.
  • Students will describe their feelings or ideas about a work of art.
  • Students will compare and contrast two works of art.
  • Students will be influenced by famous works of art.
  • Students will share ideas and brainstorm as a group to plan their artwork.
  • Students will participate in basic levels of critique and share what they like about another student’s artwork.
  • Students will use practice sketches to plan their artwork.
